LCD Soundsystem – This is Happening

After hearing the singles from the upcoming LCD album This is Happening from the dance maestro Mr. James Murphy & company I was semi-skeptical, but optimistic that the rest of the album would be a bit more interesting than the thoroughly loud Drunk Girls track.

After acquiring a leaked release this morning, I popped on the first track… When the snare suddenly erupts after the first few verses into a cochlea shattering A-bomb of pounding keys, I knew the album was going to be promising.

Can’t wait for the Austin show in a few weeks with HOLY GHOST!  Summer is here.

The Muse #3

The Muse goes Down Under

I recently posted an Empire of the Sun track that stimulated my inner senses. I keep seeing more and more about Empire of the sun and decided to continue on that same route and do a post about one of the members former groups.

Nick Littlemore is one half of Empire of the Sun, but has been active for a while with bands such as the Killers, Ladyhawke, and a group composed of friends of Sir Elton John, named Pnau.  This song by Australian electronic group Pnau I have been loving for a while.  There’s something about a track with children singing on the chorus that I find ultra catchy… (think about the hook on D.A.N.C.E.)

On a similar note, why does Australia output such better movable indie music than the states?  It’s like they inject nuwave synth in their morning yogurt.  What the place may sometimes lack culturally, they more than compensate for with groups like The Presets, Midnight Juggernauts, Gameboy/Gamegirl, Cut Copy, the list goes on and on and on.  Point in case:

Merriweather Post Pavilion

Animal Collective.

Even before this record was out, several music magazines and websites started to refer to it as “The Best Album of 2009″, while Uncut Magazine called it “one of the landmark american albums of the century.”

The album cover, based on optical illusions by Japanese Psychologist Akiyoshi Kitaoka, is what I imagine when I throw this on for my usual siestas (that always seem to be interrupted by Email phone vibrations, keeping me in a perpetual Stage 1 drifting mode that leaves me more frightened than relaxed).

The moving optical illusions always dazzle me for hours.
