After hearing the singles from the upcoming LCD album This is Happening from the dance maestro Mr. James Murphy & company I was semi-skeptical, but optimistic that the rest of the album would be a bit more interesting than the thoroughly loud Drunk Girls track.
After acquiring a leaked release this morning, I popped on the first track… When the snare suddenly erupts after the first few verses into a cochlea shattering A-bomb of pounding keys, I knew the album was going to be promising.

Can’t wait for the Austin show in a few weeks with HOLY GHOST! Summer is here.
So the new Yeasayer album, Odd Blood, is definitely going to have the same sort of impact 2010 that Animal Collective/Grizzly Bear/Dirty Projectors/etc/etc/etc did in 2009 for sensible and interesting pop music. They’ve taken their formal more tribal, melodic tone from previous work and instilled a more approachable dance-ready steadiness to it… and the live shows are dead on so far.

adequately followed by the first number one quote of the decade, from James Reed of the Boston Globe:
“Say what you will about last year’s big bubblegum anthems – from Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the U.S.A.” to Lady Gaga’s string of pop confections – but compared to “Tik Tok”, those songs are practically masterpieces written by Bob Dylan and produced by Phil Spector.”

Stumbled upon this interested series that WWII tire-turned-boot manufacturer Palladium is doing on explorations. If you can tolerate the frequent tawdry interjections of shoe shots showing off their products, the series is really fascinating and the content enforces my policy that the most absurd/insane situations and places aren’t created in fiction, but are constantly happening all around us. Stumbling through some apocalyptic scene isn’t only for Denzel, Viggo, and John Cusack, it’s for all of us… and it’s just on the other side of town. Muuuuahaha.
Just a little something to brighten up everyone in the mid-west living under a blanket of rain and cold. Wait, that’s home for me… it’s also a safe bet to say I have a strong affinity for the merriment of the female vocalist, ie in Luvvvvv.
I’ve been gone for some time. It has literally been weeks and weeks since I have posted anything whatsoever.
Today that spell is broken and we will be back some posting regularity.
little joy en la playa
I woke up today having an allergic reaction to Tennessee (the puppy, not the state) and listened to the Little Joy track Brand New Start… that album is such an easy listen. Thought I’d jump back in by sharing a song that has withstood the test of time for me.

Since we’re dabbling in the Strokes repository, mentioning Julian Casablancas‘ recent album Phrazes of the Young seems appropriate. After several listens, I stand that the single 11th Dimension is the prominent danceable track.

Tracklisting after the jump…
BUT, before you listen, make sure you watch this trailer for Schwarzenegger’s hit, Total Recall (1990) below. I’m obviously ecstatic to see it tonight at the Drafthouse as a precursor to watching Peelander Z human bowling at the neo-communist themed bar down the street. An uncanny match, Japanese comic pop + the frustrated crust punk USSR bar. America, the melting pot.
