The Muse #8: New Phoenix (Wolfgang Amadeus) Remixes

Phoenix

After about a month on the road through Spain, Portugal and elsewhere, I was delighted to have Phoenix’s latest endeavor, Wolfgang Amadeus, burning the flesh of my auditory canals since I returned to the States and jumped back into perpetual background music comfort.  Shortly thereafter, the the killer bee swarm of remixes surfaced and held ascendancy over the airwaves.  Dozens of supacool artists/remixers jumped all over this album and came out with some lavish new version 2.0s to accompany the originals.  Some favorites below, and pick up the album!

Phoenix – 1901 (RAC Maury Remix)

Phoenix – 1901 (Fabian Remix)

Phoenix – 1901 (The Garage Band Teenagers Remix)

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Alex Metric Remix)

Phoenix – Lisztomania (Holy Ghost! Paris Remix)

Phoenix – Lizstomania (Derdiedas Remix)

The Muse #7: Passion Pit + Calvin Harris + Cut Copy

Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris

Since the first time I stumbled upon Girls, I’ve had a thing for Calvin Harris and that synth line pop swagger of his.  Here he brings some strawberry funk jam on The Reeling off of Passion Pit’s new album Manners.

Passion Pit – The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix)

And an remix from the archives of Cut Copy’s Hearts on Fire.  Is it me or has there been a steady set of remixes to this song for the last year straight?  Nope, not just me.  Cut Copy is that good.

Cut Copy – Hearts on Fire (Calvin Harris Remix)

Major Lazer!!!!

Diplo

DIPLO+SWITCH >>> MAJOR LAZER

Diplo+Switch… what can be said?  Morphing two musical maestros into one is bound to be completely absurd.  With the two varying in musical styles, it is interesting to see the outcome.  This track is killing it in my head all day.

Major Lazer – Hold the Line (NOC hold the trumpet remix)

And a diplo take on a Marlena Shaw classic off of Verve Remixes 4.  This song reminds me of sunshine like none other.

Marlena Shaw – California Soul (Diplo/Mad Decent remix)

The Muse #6

Spare a Billion?

Spare a Billion?

Flosstradamus juked out this Totally Michael track proper.

Totally Michael – Casual Satisfaction (Flosstradamus remix)

Got this track a while back, Ayres juxtaposes her catchy words with some classic Oizo.  This song is just sassy.

Chelley – I Took The Night (Ayres Flatbeat Remix)

Damn Arms‘ recent melodic change is perfectly fitting with the recent emergence of midwest UV… post on the porch swing, put him on play, unbeatable.

Cut Copy – Far Away (Damn Arms Remix)

Muse #5 – That dude Breakbot

fresh ta def

Renaissance man

always a looker

always a looker

I’ve been on a huge Breakbot frenzie for the past few weeks.  The Parisian’s songs are like a sedative to the typical french banger.  I would classify his tracks as a glass of lemonade squeezed from freshly picked Amalfi lemons.

And the tracks, by golly.

Sneaky Soundsystem – When We Were Young (Breakbot Remix).mp3

Metronomy – A Thing for Me (Breakbot Remix).mp3

Sébastien Tellier – Roche (Breakbot Remix).mp3

Van She – Kelly (Breakbot Remix).mp3

Royksopp – Happy Up Here (Breakbot Remix).mp3

Yuksek – Extraball (Breakbot Remix).mp3

The Muse #4

Sunday again.  Awesome weekend.  The Ann Arbor Film Festival came to an end, thankfully I got to catch some screenings.  One of the most notable in my opinion was the screening of Don Hertzfeldt’s (of Rejected Cartoons fame) premiere of “I am so proud of you,” part 2 of his new 3 parts series regarding the dark life of Bill.  Check it out if you get the chance, his method of animation and work overall was absolutely astonishing, and a lot more provocative then I would have imagined.

The classic: Rejected Cartoons.

MUSIC THAT RULES:

Bag Raiders – Shooting Stars.mp3

Damn Arms – Destination Part 1.mp3

Touche – Spectres.mp3

Finally, check out this mix via Trash Menagerie.  40 something minutes of new millennium disco revival.  Corey W turned me onto this one.

The Muse #3

The Muse goes Down Under

I recently posted an Empire of the Sun track that stimulated my inner senses. I keep seeing more and more about Empire of the sun and decided to continue on that same route and do a post about one of the members former groups.

Nick Littlemore is one half of Empire of the Sun, but has been active for a while with bands such as the Killers, Ladyhawke, and a group composed of friends of Sir Elton John, named Pnau.  This song by Australian electronic group Pnau I have been loving for a while.  There’s something about a track with children singing on the chorus that I find ultra catchy… (think about the hook on D.A.N.C.E.)

Pnau – Baby.mp3

Check out Pnau’s Website (the colorfully crafted danceable cousin of Snood)

On a similar note, why does Australia output such better movable indie music than the states?  It’s like they inject nuwave synth in their morning yogurt.  What the place may sometimes lack culturally, they more than compensate for with groups like The Presets, Midnight Juggernauts, Gameboy/Gamegirl, Cut Copy, the list goes on and on and on.  Point in case:

Cut Copy – Lights and Music (Boyz Noize Happy Birthday Remix).mp3

The Presets – Talk Like That (Miami Horror Remix).mp3

The Muse #2, I think 22 is a good age to stay at

Tom Selleck Bday Cake

Tom Selleck Bday Cake

1st of all, happy co-birthday to S. Jurist, proud mother of the best looking Frenchie this side of the Atlantic.

2nd of all, this cake feels representative of my life, and pays tribute to the Tom Selleck Stashio Bashio, which will be coming again this year in March.

I’m on a hot streak right now- I lost my wallet last night at Pinball Petes during a latenight Air Hockey challenge, and I was moments away from cancelling all of my credit cards, but I went back a few hours ago and discovered the little guy under the Xtreme Rafting machine.  I got really stoked on not having to go through the hassle of a lost wallet, and subsequently spent the next 2 hours playing Canadian Big Buck Hunter by myself… reminiscent of gaming and drinking brews at the shithole McSorleys (actually named Sophies) in the East Village.

Anyways, I’m keeping this short so I can get to entertaining Scurvvvyyyy Dayyyyy and all of those coming in from out of town tonight.

And The Muse round deux:

Trabant – The One (Black Ghosts Remix)

Empire of the Sun – We are the People (Shazam Remix)

Lykke Li – Breaking It Up (Pocketknifes Loosefoot Remix)

The Muse #1

In an attempt to instill a greater sense of structure and regularity on roubalot, I am starting a weekly posting dubbed The Muse, in which I will post up new songs/old songs/bangers/goodies/sounds that delighted me the prior week, and hopefully will ignite some sense of optimism in this world gone mad for you too!

This also serves as an abstract dedication to The Muse’s wisdom, which is unbounded and infinite.

That said, this is the inaugural post of the weekly installment, The Muse.

“I think you’re the only person I could truly say ‘I don’t know what he’s up to, but I don’t like it’ about.” – The Muse

Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream

Hey Champ – Cold Dust Girl
